Dr. Ashby, a respected educator and mentor, holds a doctorate in Education. With a focus on addressing the complex issue of offender reentry into society, Dr. Ashby conducted in-depth research for her dissertation, "A Product of the Environment: The Effects Of Environmental And Social Factors On Recidivism As It Compares To Reciprocal Determinism". Through her research, she gained a deep understanding of the environmental and social factors that contribute to reoffending, and the skills necessary to develop effective strategies for reducing recidivism. This expertise has played a crucial role in her mission to break the cycle of the school-to-prison pipeline and empower young people in her community.

Correctional Experience
Dr. Ashby has dedicated over 10 years of her career to serving those in the criminal justice system. She began her correctional education journey as the adult basic correctional education teacher, where she quickly established a reputation as an innovative and compassionate educator. With the onset of the computer based GED test, Dr. Ashby was among the highest in achieving GEDs for correctional education in the state, solidifying her commitment to providing second chances and transforming lives. In recognition of her achievements, she was later promoted to the role of Correctional Education Principal, where she continued to make a positive impact. Under her leadership, through her hard work and dedication, the facility was awarded the Second Chance Pell Grant, which helped incarcerated individuals receive college credits and trade certifications. She also implemented a keyboarding class for offenders serving life sentences.
